Lion in the Limelight: Stephanie Carone

Tell us about your role and position at Lionbridge onDemand?

I am the Sales Operations Manager for onDemand. I manage a lot of different aspects of making sure our Online Sales Team runs smoothly. My main responsibilities include managing our RFP process and managing all onDemand marketing efforts. I also however, pay our bills; do all the reporting, buy snacks for the team, control the backend of the portal… I basically do anything that needs to be done to support the sales team and our sales goals.

What about Lionbridge onDemand made you want to work here in the first place?

Aaron (our VP) actually had an old classmate of mine from college reach out to me via LinkedIn who was one of the first employees of onDemand. She set up an interview with Aaron and the team. Aaron pitched me on what onDemand was currently doing and what we were hoping to do in the future. That was about a year and a half ago.

I was really stuck in my Finance job, and the prospect of writing all day and getting paid for it was really enticing. Everyone in the office was really nice and around my age, and I could tell they were working really hard for a common goal. I excitedly took the job and it’s the best decision I’ve made to date.

Since then, things have changed wildly. I’ve been promoted a few times, and I have taken on a lot more responsibility. We have exceeded our goals and continue to make loftier goals. The only thing that hasn’t changed is that we’re a group of people just doing whatever we can for a common goal. That right there makes my job not feel like a job.

What is your proudest/ favorite memory at Lionbridge onDemand?

My favorite memory was winning my first RFP. It was for a large finance company, and it turned out to be our largest sale to date at the time. Although the relationship was trying and stressful at times, I was so glad to have finally won a sizable deal and contribute something to the team. Before that, I had been responding to RFPs left and right to no avail. Thankfully, that opened up the floodgates for larger opportunities and some more great wins.

Before working at Lionbridge, what other jobs did you have?

My first job was at Dunkin Donuts, and I truly loved it. I was 16, and they promoted me to Shift Leader after only 4 months. I got to boss a bunch of older people around and I thought I was the best.  I also spent that summer working a 4am-noon shift. I never thought I was an early riser, but I loved it. I would work a full shift and then drive straight to the beach for the afternoon.

After that, I worked at Tommy Hilfiger at the Wrentham Outlets for six years, eventually becoming a store manager. I think I spent every dollar I earned using my discount and buying too many clothes (that I still actually wear today!)

After college, I spent two years at a 529 College Savings finance company. I learned a lot about corporate and the “cube life”. Although it was painfully boring, and sometimes I didn’t talk to anyone all day, the corporate leadership team there took me under their wing and taught me how to write RFPs and proposal responses. If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t be at onDemand today. I’m eternally grateful for the years I spent in the cube.

What are your long-term career goals and aspirations?

I’d love to continue to work hard for onDemand and grow within this company. I believe this is just the beginning.

Long term, I’d love to be a communications director for a non-profit and teach Journalism to high school students. My journalism teacher in high school believed in my writing talent and pushed me to study journalism and professional writing. If it wasn’t for her, I’m not sure what I would’ve done!

What’s your claim to fame?

I’m really good at writing cover letters and resumes. That’s boring, but everyone asks me and I have a pretty good conversion rate!

Fun Fact:  The entire onDemand team gained an average of 10 pounds each when I briefly thought it would be a good idea to work at a cupcake shop on the weekends and I’d bring them the “rejects” every Monday.
